Limited Edition works by Arte Merva now up!

Virtual Soho's favorite Swiss artist, Merva, has a new set of Limited Edition paintings for sale! They're located on the second floor of her store, just North of the VividBlack Museum.

I hung out with Merva during her installation and took some pics for your viewing pleasure.

If you're not already familiar with her work, her pieces are fervent and vibrant displays of beauty and spirit, (just like her!)

I've already snatched one up for my collection ;) I can't wait to find a place to display it! Woot!

Open Books - Open Minds: Ex Libris Reading Room now open in Soho

We are art and literature geeks, so it's only natural that we would include a great library in out beautiful Virtual Soho. Our collection is growing and includes some great short stories, sonnets and poetry. As the offerings continue to grow we are seeking submissions by SL writers to add to our "local" collection. These NC based works will also include a link to the writer's website or blog, so please contact Araminta Kroitschov if you would like to add your work to our library. Also, stop by and relax by the fire and read awhile.

Sweet Jasmine Sushi Restaurant is about to open!

Located up the hill, between the metal building (the one available with the awesome *FREE* rental opening Ara's been posting about,) and the new reading room, is one of our newest additions! SUSHI! Need I say more?

The new restaurant will seat up to 17 adults and two kids or teenies. There's a conveyor belt sushi bar, two large and two small booths, and an outdoor conversation area for three.

It seems the only places to find free sushi are heaven and SL, and while ours goes back into hiding when you've finished your meal, animated chopsticks are complimentary with your dining experience, (gees, that sounded all official-like, hehe)

Here are some more pics for your viewing pleasure:

This is the awesome seating area out front of the restaurant. The poster on the wall of "Sushi Cat" is a screen print by artist Araminta Kroitschov (yes, THAT Araminta, hehe.) It's available for purchase in the restaurant for $200L. Just click it!

Enola and I testing out one of the large booths.

What to order, what to order...?
Ohhh, some of these!

Pandorah stopped by to check out the near-finished restaurant, and dressed for the occasion ;)

Panorah Ashende created the sushi sculpts for me, (all the sushi except the ones on the conveyor.) She has a wide variety of items available on the Marketplace and she's a pleasure to work with! Be sure to check her stuff out!

Update:

There is now a sign on the front of the store (on the railing) which gives out the following free tee shirts:

Please take one and wear it in support of those in Japan who are suffering with the aftermath of the Earthquake and Tsunami! They're full perm, so give a copy to anyone you want, (but please do NOT sell them.)

Ara and Plato's day out!

Since we tend to work our virtual tushies off with Soho, we rarely get the opportunity to go on adventures together. Yesterday was one of those days.

And lucky us! Tableau had just reopened their sim and there was much excitement and frolicking to be had!

Who doesn't love an good interactive locale with fun stuff to see and investigate? Here's some pics of our adventure:

Killer bunny!

Ara, reading my fortune...

"I see many great prims in your future!"

This was interesting. Took forever to find the pose ball though!

Ara struts better than I do.

This was definitely something I'd not seen before, (in my short six months on SL,) The treasure chest in the back is full of large puppets. Click it, choose your puppet, (turn off your AO!) and then you can stand with your ginormous puppet and let it mingle amongst all the other ginormous puppets on stage.

More like an ampitheater, I guess.

This is the location to find the bunny, dancing and fortune telling.
For some reason it's off, away from the stores. I would have liked to see them more intertwined, but the folks at Tableau have been doing this far longer than I, so I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Bubbles Clawtooth is back with a new store! Woot! I'm going to miss the old sim and layout, but you have to admit, he definitely got a kickass new building design!

There's a whole area of trailers off to the left side of these buildings, and also a lot of Hacienda-style buildings (stores). The new sim was a bit of a shock - the amount it was changed - but the new design definitely gets the point across and is very well done. I felt like I was in Santa Fe! What was I thinking, wearing a wool dress and boots???

Woot! Woot! I'm stuck on the roof!

Hey all, Plato here. This is my first post, which is fitting, since I'm needing to write for help getting off this roof. Send a search party!

In other news, the elevator should be fixed soon ;)

---------------------------

And this is what a working elevator looks like... Ta-da! ;)

I had to reset the whole thing, floor by floor, but it was worth it. Our Deco building needs it's lift!

---------------------------

Ara and I were discussing the details of our last two buildings to be created in Soho. One will contain a top-secret dynamo of a fun place, but the future of the other is still unknown. Anyone have any suggestions?

The two dark green structures are the buildings in question. Hmmm... what to do, what to do?

And yes, if you've not seen it before, that is a train car floating above one of the buildings. Legend has it, it's the sole survivor of the great train explosion of 2003, (or was it 2004? 2007? Something like that.) Anyway, it will eventually have to be sent back to its owner when our prims start getting low. The guy's not responded to any of my attempts to contact him. Not sure he's even online anymore, but I wish we could move it to a better location.

Well, I have some work to do and a last minute sale to catch, (shhh! Don't tell Ara I'm not working! Hehe.)

Toodles!

Soho Major Domos

Ara and Plato taking a well deserved break from building.
We would like to take a moment to introduce ourselves to the Soho community. We are Araminta Kroitschov and Plato Novo and we are pleased to meet you! Consider us your contacts for any Virtual Soho info or inquiries. We'd love to meet you, give you a tour or chat awhile.

We founded this space to have the opportunity to build an interpretation of the Soho Iron Front district where affordable re-purposing of buildings for artists, writers and musicians spawned a Renaissance of counter culture and creative breakthroughs.
In our Soho there's lots to explore, hidden surprises, art, cool gadgets, hang-outs and more! Come visit and stay to live and work if you like!

Word Origin & History
major-domo
1580s, via It. maggiordomo  or Sp. mayordomo,  from M.L. major domus  "chief of the household," also "mayor of the palace" under the Merovingians, from L. major  "greater" + gen. of domus  "house" (see domestic). Online Etymology Dictionary, © 2010 Douglas Harper

Soho is Born

We've been hard at work building a great little arts and culture scene in Virtual Soho in Second Life. The city has the look and feel of the old Iron Front district in Soho with a few other architectural goodies tacked on for some variety an interest. There's lots to see and do and we are growing every day.
Attractions include the Ear Bar, Soho Park, Gas Station, Museum and Municipal Sewer as well as some fabulous shops %Percent Home Store, Inked Scorpion Tattoos and Boyd's Vintage Guitars.
So come visit, hang out and enjoy our little mecca of counter culture!
